Q + A with the newest member of our Brisbane team – Sean Anderson!
It’s always a good day when we get to what we do best (*cough* recruiting *cough*) for ourselves. And after the kind of year that was 2020, the thought of growing our team and meeting good, down-to-earth humans in the process was as exciting as hearing childcare was back on. Well, almost as exciting.
One of these good, down-to-earth humans we met? Sean Anderson.
He’s 6-foot-2, a self-declared cryptocurrency nerd and the newest member of our Brisbane team. Sean moved back to his home state of Queensland last March (yes, that March) after a 5 year stint in Ireland. That’s where his recruitment career first began and since then, he’s loved connecting hard-to-find people to cool opportunities.
Let’s get on with it shall we? Meet Sean!
Tell us, what do you do at affix?
It’s simple. I connect smart people to smart businesses.
What attracted you to working at affix?
Before starting at affix, I met with the team in Brisbane and it was very evident that everyone loved their jobs. Honestly, it’s a feeling that I haven’t experienced in a long time so it was very refreshing! In addition to this, their approach to both candidates and clients is genuine and it’s clear that their knowledge and expertise has garnered them credibility in the market.
What’s a common misconception about your job?
Unfortunately recruiters/agencies don’t always have the best rep and for that reason it is easy for people to make assumptions about what we do. I’m not in it to simply place a candidate into any job and “cya later”, I prefer to delve deep into the process and make sure candidates are finding their dream job and clients find their dream candidates.
What tech or trend are you loving right now?
I’m pretty deep down the rabbit hole that is blockchain/crypto.
If you had to deliver a TED talk tomorrow, what would it be about?
The future of decentralised exchanges for in-game trading assets OR… How to bake the best chewy Nutella cookies. I’ll let the public decide haha
What’s your superpower?
Inspector gadget arms and legs.
What’s something many people don’t know about you?
I won my first online poker tournament when I was 13 (3,000+ entrants and after nearly 9 hours). Parents still don’t know to this day how I afforded my own Xbox.
What are you listening to, reading and/or watching right now?
Most recent Spotify: Kaytranada, Death By Denim, Spacey Jane, Anderson Paak & Anitta – Girl from Rio!
Reading: Napoleon Hill, Altcoin project white papers (super nerdy I know haha)
Watching: Mr. Robot (2nd time). Seinfeld (always)
What’s your favourite mental health/productivity hack?
Honestly just listening to music puts me in a good head space. Need to start meditating too – heard great things.
Ok last one… time for ‘would you rather’!
- Would you rather be forced to sing along or dance to every single song you hear? Dance unless you want your ears to bleed
- Would you rather never use tomato sauce again or give up mayo? Never tomato sauce
- Would you rather be smacked in the face with a fish or farted on? Fish smack pls
