Q + A with the newest member of our Experience and Enablement team – Rach Kerruish
As recruiters, we see job seekers bring their best self to interviews all the time. Polished CV? Check. Genuine understanding of the business’s mission and value prop? Check. A casual nod to the team, outing that three months ago she came across us in her LinkedIn stalking? Check.
But there’s going above and beyond. And then there’s Rachael Kerruish – affix’s new Content Producer. From day zero, Rach has above’d-and-beyond’ed everything she could. Like: creating her own version of the Q + A’s we do with all new starters (aka this very Q + A below!) And because of that? We’re bloody stoked to welcome her into the world of affix.
Rach brings with her a passion and excitement for content and storytelling that can only be explained by her Uni degrees and work experience (and 3x daily coffees). She has a heart of gold and a wit that gives everyone at affix a run for their money (and if you know anyone here, you know that’s saying a lot).
We could go on and on and on. But there’s no one who’ll quite tell it the way Rach does. So go on, get to know our newest teamie, Rachael!
Q + A with Rach, our new Content Producer!
Tell us, what do you do at affix?
I’m just a digital gal, living in a digital world 💁♀️. Each day I equip myself with a coffee and flex my copywriting skills to really capture the hearts and minds of the affix audience, and give them a peek under the hood as to what really goes on here.
What impact do you hope to have with affix?
I am excited about sharing the story of creating the best recruitment experience imaginable. I’m here to help the team bring a few special projects to life plus elevate important social causes that are closely aligned with our values. I also get to have a lot of fun celebrating the humans we work with, being brand partners, job seekers or team members.
What attracted you to working at affix?
It’s not one thing, but a feeling – Have you ever met someone who is a genuinely good person, with a capital G? The kinda person who sees the best in everyone and radiates good energy? times that by ten and you have yourself a ‘fixie. NOW, imagine a WHOLE office filled with those people. That’s affix.
What trend are you personally loving right now?
I’m LIVING for the trend that daggy is cool – ie: comfort over fashion, (I’m looking at you: crocs and socks) good laughs, nights in, composting. Passionate about spreadsheets? Tell me about it! Love an early bedtime and keeping hydrated? OMG me too!
What do you think the affix audience wants to see/read?
I feel like (now more than ever) we’re a time poor bunch and I want to spend my precious down-time reading insightful articles and discovering things that make me say “omg that’s so cool, I can’t believe I never thought of ____ that way before”.
If you had to deliver a TED talk tomorrow, what would it be about?
Mindfulness – and the week I spent in silence at a small buddhist retreat in New Zealand. Think zen x 500. (Admittedly I’m still working on improving my meditation practice) but I would encourage everyone to try digital detox-ing & getting away from the hustle & bustle. It was such an enriching experience for me.
What’s your superpower?
Perseverance. I’m here to play the long game. Not a fan of fast-fashion, trend-chasing, or not a meaningless networking kinda gal. I’m always on the hunt for genuine connection, valuable insights & long lasting friendships, and I’ll persevere till I get there!
…I’ve ALSO been told I’ve accumulated a pretty strong amount of random facts, that I’m more than happy to share – Not at the stage of walking encyclopaedia, but I really pride myself in knowing a little bit about everything and I’m a huge advocate of lifelong learning. (Any good docco recommendations please send my way!)
What’s something many people don’t know about you?
Multi-day hikes are my idea of the perfect holiday!
What’s the most useful thing you own?
My coffee machine, I know it’s silly but I would save it if my house is on fire.
What are you listening to, reading, and/or watching right now?
Always reading two books at a time! One for my brain & one for my heart. I adore the nuanced writing of Sally Rooney. Or you’ll find me lying on the couch (coffee in hand) reading Atomic Habits for the 5th time.
What’s your favourite mental health/productivity hack?
“Smile, breathe and go slowly.”- Thich Nhat Hanh. This little mantra might surprise those who know me as a 3-cups of coffee kinda gal, BUT I’ve learnt that returning to conscious breathing ALWAYS makes me feel better (Note: You can do this too! This is a reminder to pause for a moment and take a deep breath if you can)
Ok last one… time for ‘would you rather’
Would you rather have unlimited international first-class tickets or never have to pay for food at restaurants?
- This is the hardest question I’ve ever had to answer – But it’s the free international flights for me, I’d see every corner of the world! (plus I love cooking at home)
Would you rather have a cat with a human face or a dog with human hands for paws?
- Both of these are genuinely terrifying, who wrote these questions and are they okay?!
Would you rather eat brownies with a slight chance that there might be a tiny bit of poop in them or eat an entire jar of mayonnaise?
- Okay, alright, now I’m really concerned I’ve just started working with a bunch of crazies. These questions are getting outta hand… IF YOU’RE READING THIS SEND HELP.
