Q + A with the newest member of our Talent Advocate team – Mike Patterson
What do maple syrup, all-denim ‘tuxedos’, and Mike Patterson have in common? Yep, you guessed it. They all come from the beautiful country of Canada. But only one of these? Gets to hang out with us in affix-land. And folks – as much as we don’t mind maple syrup, we’re bloody thrilled it’s Mikey P who’s helping us create the best recruitment experience imaginable.
Now we know he’s new around here, but spend five minutes with this guy? And you’ll quickly feel like you’ve known him for years #KingofD&Ms. Mike is the kind of person who you can trust is present in a conversation, will always remember little details about your life, and won’t miss an opportunity to get to know the real you (not the CV you).
So it comes as no surprise that building relationships and connecting with amazing humans is Mike’s bread & butter. Enough of our ramblings (can you tell we’re obsessed?), it’s time to meet Mike:
Q + A with Mike Patterson, our new Talent Advocate!
Tell us, what do you do at affix?
I belong to the fascinating world of Tech in which I help facilitate relationships between clients and their future employees.
What impact do you hope to have with affix?
I hope to integrate my love for people, community and tech into the world of recruitment while building some amazing relationships along the way.
What attracted you to working at affix?
Getting to be part of a workplace that aligns with my values, and is making a change to the industry standards. And of course, it goes without saying, the amazing team and culture.
What’s the best thing a job seeker can do in an interview to impress you?
This is going to sound cliche, but someone who can be themselves and think outside of the box will always be impressive.
What tech or trend are you personally loving right now?
I’m fascinated by all things AI. I’m just hoping this isn’t the start of evil robots taking over the world scenario…
If you had to deliver a TED talk tomorrow, what would it be about?
The positive impacts on mental health and wellbeing that come from uprooting your life and establishing yourself in a foreign country.
What’s your superpower?
The ability to have a late night D&M with someone I met hours earlier.
What’s something many people don’t know about you?
I have been vegan for 3 years, however when it comes to dessert, I can be easily persuaded.
What are you listening to, reading and/or watching right now?
I’m currently listening to Jungle’s – Loving In Stereo on vinyl. You can ask any of my friends and they would tell you that I have ruined this album for them as I play it on repeat.
What’s your favourite mental health/productivity hack?
I have been using the Wim Hoff breathwork method for the last couple of years. I do this each morning and find this helps set the tone for the day and allows me to reset my mindset if I’m feeling anxious or stressed.
Ok last one… time for ‘would you rather’!
- Would you rather look 10 years older from the neck up, or the neck down?
- Neck up so I can become that silver fox my wife is always been talking about
- Would you rather buy all used underwear or all used toothbrushes?
- Used underwear since that’s not going anywhere near my mouth
- Would you rather someone see all the photos in your phone or read all your text messages?
- Someone to see all my photos, because I have done some pretty cool things with some pretty cool people
