Senior Product Designer | Native Mobile App


It feels pretty bloody good to be working with an iconic brand, who are purpose driven to genuinely make life easier for folks all across the country. Since launching in Australia in 2012, Compare the Market (CtM) has become one of our most loved comparison websites. Their mission is to help us make better informed purchase decisions about a number of important financial products; from insurance to home loans. They are now at (what I think is an) exciting time of scale, where their scope of impact and the care & support they provide for users is growing tremendously.

Here’s a list of words/phrases I am sick of hearing about, but absolutely cannot ignore the very real and tangible impact of: inflation, cost-of-living-crisis, and recession. Ugh. CtM have undergone a bit of a transformation to now being a truly digital and customer led business, and throughout the process have deepened their purpose to extend beyond their more traditional financial product problem spaces. Think about how expensive fuel and insurance have become — their product now represents close to 80% of an Australian consumer’s household budget.

As prices continue to go up, more and more folks are going to really struggle to make ends meet, and the CtM team is committed to customer-led innovation to extend the value that they can provide to Aussie households… like through their new mobile app. 

The mobile app
The CtM mobile app is currently being reimagined, so we can’t tell you too much about it just now (you’ll have to meet with the team for that!), but there’s genuine support for users and new ways of putting money directly back into their pockets. It’s currently being built in Flutter, so you’ll be joining in the early-days to help them scale it out. This is an entirely new space for CtM, and you’ll work closely with the Head of Innovation to experiment, build out new ways of working, and enjoy a huge amount of creative freedom along the way to making users’ lives better than ever. 

What’s the role all about then?
Reporting to the Head of Customer Experience (CX), you will work closely within the cross functional Mobile App team to ideate, design and implement digital solutions to improve CX and uplift retention and engagement. It’s a tight knit team where everyone is committed to design quality, riiiiight down to the pixel level. You will work in alignment with Human Centered Design principles, all whilst upholding the broader CtM Brand and CX guidelines to deliver cohesive user experiences that delight. 

As a designer you are creative, commercial, and *love* to champion the needs of users. This is a role where you will flex both your UI and UX skills. You’ll create exceptional customer experiences and help to tackle complex problems, products and services; transforming them into intuitive, accessible and easy to use designs. As a senior within the team, you will also have the opportunity to mentor and help nurture + grow the next generation of CtM designers around you.

As a member of the greater CtM CX team, you’ll be involved in all stages of the digital product lifecycle including research, inception, creating experience maps, user & task flows and wireframes, detailed design, prototyping, collaboration with development, execution, and analysis of the design usage and engagement. Day to day you will collaborate across the business & communicate by way of presentations, workshop facilitation, and even written docs. Fluency with visual and interaction and prototyping tools is a must – they use Figma. 

A little bit more about you

  • You have experience in a UX/UI Design role, where you’ve designed for native mobile apps across different devices and operating systems.
  • You are passionate about Design Thinking, Human Centered Design, and Human Computer Interaction.
  • You enjoy collaborating and communicating with various stakeholders, be they technical, non technical, or leadership; and are confident presenting your ideas and designs clearly & effectively back to others. 
  • Most importantly you are an inquisitive mind with a growth mindset; research and testing stuff out will be your bread and butter. Your curiosity will extend across user and customer research, usability testing, A/B testing and other CRO initiatives — you may not (yet) be an expert in all of this, but you’ll roll your sleeves up to try alongside the team!
