99designs is a global creative platform that makes it easy for designers and clients to work together to make designs they love. They bring opportunities to designers globally through design contests and direct project work, and they have a community of designers located in 192 countries.
Why join now?
99designs are now entering another exciting period of growth with their acquisition by Vistaprint. What are they all about? They’re a friend to small businesses & well… they’re all about printing! Such as custom ordered marketing collateral, coming together with 99designs’ global creative community means bringing beautiful design to more people & an end to end printed service–it makes complete sense.
99designs is a two-sided marketplace that connects people who need design (clients), with talented creators and designers from all around the world to collaborate. These connections often lead to lasting relationships, and empower designers on the platform to work remotely, on their own terms.
The Design team includes Product Designers and UX Researchers, who work across the end to end experience for both clients and creators. Each designer is embedded within a ‘Group’ who focus on key parts of the user journey: Exploration, Connection, Collaboration and Platform.
What is the role?
As a Product Design Lead you’ll tackle complex tasks and transform them into intuitive and accessible experiences for many – from the first time user to the sophisticated expert. Achieving this goal requires leadership and collaboration with Designers, Engineers, Support, Marketing and Product Managers throughout the entire design process – from planning through to delivery. At each stage, you will anticipate what users need, advocate for them and ensure that the product released delights them.
As a senior member of the Design team, you will help shape design practices and processes, while also being a manager, coach and role model for other members of the team.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
A bit about you:
99designs hold their values dearly – they believe in putting people first, and helping other people to create their own success, that design has no borders, and that the journey should be fun. They want every person they engage with to be delighted with the 99designs service and experience.
As they continue to scale, they are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team that reflects the communities in which they operate. They want people to feel like they belong and can bring their whole selves to work. Their aim is to continue to foster a collaborative environment with a keen focus on innovation, growth and ownership.
They are on the journey to diversity – very transparent with their progress, and open to employee feedback. They believe that welcoming, supporting, and celebrating people from all experiences and backgrounds will enable them to build a stronger and more creative environment on their platform and within their own teams. Below are some of the things they do to support their people.
99designs have a culture of workplace flexibility.
Some people work remotely, some people have start and flex finish times, they have part-time workers (4 day weeks, 9 day fortnights)… the common thread between it all is that it’s unique to each person’s needs. Some people have joined with flex needs in their contract, and others have changed as their life and circumstances have! Some people are parents, some are studying at uni – it’s all about what your individual needs may be and how they can support you.
If we weren’t in lockdown… you would find the team working from their gorgeous office in Richmond, which is really spacious with lots of natural light. They have a fully stocked kitchen with lots of things supplied by the local organic grocer, and every Thursday the company enjoys a catered lunch from local small businesses. There’s also a regular free yoga class (and in nice weather it is on the rooftop), and a pretty active running group who run around the botanical gardens or along the Yarra river at lunchtimes.
