Interaction/UI Designer $100,000-$120,000 Inc.

Hello… is it you we’re looking for?
I am working with a team of inspiring folks who are looking for someone with a challenger mindset, ready to ask heavy hitting questions, prepared to fail… faster, and excited at the challenge of being part of a team who is continually creating, developing and testing ideas.

They are a hypothesis lead group who set out to prove or disprove rather than investing time and $ in a problem or a feature that never needed to be solved or created, to begin with.

That is not to say that they do not like to innovate. Currently, they have a number of applications and are dedicated to creating new products that are meaningful to their customers while maintaining that the aim is for this role is to provide a polished, tailored and seamless experience to the end users for those current products.

They are looking to grow the team to include a stellar interaction/ UI designer who can come in and help the team uplift/ enhance the current brand experience across multiple products. The aim is to find a designer who is strategic and does not just live in the here and now, but who will look into the horizon and think 6, 9, 12+ months in the future.

You will be spending 50% of your time in this new product and feature design space so we hope you share the same passion for the future of what they can become as we do!

Now, are you incredibly productive, and able to manage time effectively? Well versed in digital product design & experienced and comfortable working within a cross-functional team, utilizing agile methodologies?

And maybe, just maybe you have understanding and experience with design practices including design thinking and human-centered design. With a passion to continually learn and improve, looking to peers, leading design blogs, and industry experts. Is that a nod I see? Well then keep reading….

What is the role?
We’re looking for an IxD/ UI specialist, to further build out the capabilities of the design team, ensuring they have the breadth of UI, UX and IxD expertise.

As the interaction designer, you’ll be the go-to for all things user behavior within the design experience space. Although this is where your experience lies, you’ll also be taking design ownership of the UI, working throughout the spectrum of digital product design.

You’ll have a clean, bold, modern visual aesthetic, and an obsession for quality- consistently looking for inspiration and to better yourself.

You’ll also need to be able to understand business needs and translate them into beautiful user experiences across all devices and platforms (desktop, tablet, mobile, apps).

You will work within a small Digital Design (& Marketing) team and will be responsible for the creation, evaluation and iteration of user interface designs and user experience. This Digital Design team is part of a highly skilled digital product team, including product managers, developers and business analysts.

We’re looking for someone to produce market leading experiences, collaborating with the wider product team to execute on strategy.

Ideally, you will have experience operating in design sprints, and be comfortable wireframing even though UX is not your full time job, and digesting user interviews to use the feedback to iterate and enhance the products.

What does a typical day look like?

  • Creating user journeys, design systems, style guides, UI elements, wireframes and prototypes (low and high fidelity).
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative data, and using it to influence design decisions.
  • Play an active role and contribute to the interdisciplinary product team; vocalising ideas and opinions and proactively identifying business and user needs.
  • Push the design boundaries and challenge the status quo.
  • Refine the UI creative across the product portfolio
  • Rapid prototyping using low-fidelity methods to arrive at user insights quickly
  • Produce sketches, wireframes, information architecture, and UI guidelines for both web and mobile products.
  • Create high-fidelity design artefacts
  • Work closely with the engineering team to iterate on product designs and ensure the highest quality finished product
  • Staying ahead of the latest technology and applying it — where appropriate — to the benefit of their users.

What experience do you need to have need?

  • Proven design experience showcased through a diverse digital product portfolio of creative design thinking and outcomes.
  • Deep understanding in best design practices across all devices
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Highly proficient in a variety of design tools such as Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Invision, Principle and Axure.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

What we can provide to you!

First and foremost, a design practice that is centered around progression.

Our client has an HCD process which will typically be lead with a design sprint and followed by customer interviews. As mentioned before they are hypothesis led so they want to validate early on- iterate quickly- and always have a collaborative approach.

They are a team that truly believes in the future and what it stands for, who stand by their values of trust, honesty, innovation and their local customers.

There is a place for others out there in the market who help the big boys, but they are here to help small to medium sized Aussie companies thrive. Everyone has an opportunity to make an impact here, your voice is heard and your ideas welcome.
