Head of Engineering

Remote - Australia wide

The power of mentorship, especially during this pandemic, has never been more important as businesses strive to aid their employees’ personal and professional growth. Mentoring allows people to learn from one another, providing a path to knowledge transfer and growth. As significant changes have been imposed on work-life balance, the need for a mutually beneficial relationship like that of mentee-mentor is the most valuable asset to attain during these times.

Sounds easy enough, right? Turns out, there is a lot that goes into this. Mentoring is an art, not just software.

That’s my segue to introduce you to Art of Mentoring. They are a vibrant, dynamic, and progressive Australian company on a fast growth trajectory and we’re looking for a Head of Engineering to join them on their global journey.

About the role

As Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for setting and delivering the strategic technology direction of the business, aligning to the growth goals of the business, and managing a team of 6 (soon to be 8) engineers, QA, and support.

You will report to the CEO, and will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team. The right person for this role will build a best-in-class technology organisation focused on customer loyalty, product quality, high performance, scalability, and revenue growth. You will work closely with internal stakeholders in the establishment and execution of their product roadmaps that deliver enhanced value to their customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a strong, world-class technology team and technical product development capability.
  • Deliver product roadmaps with a high degree of efficiency and quality.
  • Manage the Agile process, DevOps, and IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure our products have the necessary resiliency and scalability to meet the needs of our growing customer base in numbers and new geographies and quality to meet assurance standards.
  • Oversee and evolve the development process, technology evaluation, and tool selections for the platform and wider business.
  • Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technology delivery and performance.
  • Ensure that all aspects of business’ cyber and information security posture is well managed – both proactively and reactively – and risks are appropriately eliminated or mitigated.

About you

Mentoring is all about human relationships, and this is very much part of the Art of Mentoring culture. You must be able to lead, inspire and coach the technology team and foster strong relationships and collaboration. This is a role that will suit a technology leader with well-developed soft skills, who can also roll up the sleeves to get things done.

You are someone who is passionate about technology and keen to contribute greatly to their growth as a company.  You understand what it’s like to work in a start-up or a Product/Tech-driven org that has scaled. It’s true that they are still innovating and evolving the product, but they definitely have the culture of one.

You’re an engineer at heart but leading people is what gets you excited. This role is well suited to someone who wants to expand their leadership experience, take full ownership of tech and build something pretty awesome.

A couple of bullet points to round it off….

  • Experience across this tech stack would be fab –  LAMP/LEMP stacks, NodeJS, VueJS and/or ReactJS.
  • Practical skills in Scrum management, DevOps / IT Infrastructure management. Scrum Master Certified would be ace, but not mandatory
