About the gig: 
We’re after a Commercial Director to play an instrumental role in establishing a physical presence and thriving biz for this exceptional agency in Victoria. 

You’ll be walking into a business where success has been as constant as their desire to level up. And they’re future-proofing this success by establishing a local team and office in Melbourne to continue their exceptional growth trajectory. 

We’re really looking for that special someone that has the qualities, the values, and the chops to set the future direction of the agency, be at the helm of building a beautiful pipeline of client partnerships within the Melbourne market, as well as play a pivotal role in further defining what their Melbourne presence should look like now and how it should evolve into the future (told you it’s exciting!)

That’s why we’re looking for a leader who is incredibly well-networked in the agency market, has an eye for capturing the hearts and business of some big and beautiful clients and partners, and can confidently put new strategies in place to ensure future success and optimal growth. Seriously, the sky’s the limit with the impact you can make!

As the Senior leader of the Melbourne agency, you’ll have the freedom to map out how you create a foundation and work towards achieving those growth objectives in Victoria whilst playing a crucial role in deciding how the team should be scaled, whether that’s through building your very own local client service team around you or investing in marketing, etc. you’ll fully get to champion this.

Reporting into the National Commercial Director and working closely with the CEO and Client Strategy Director you’ll have loads of support to ensure your success, as well as some of the best technical specialists in the biz on-hand to assist you.

And you? For starters, you’re a natural leader, you’re ambitious, you’re a people person who is values-driven and genuine to your core, and naturally, you’re an excellent communicator. We’d also like to think you’re someone who has spent a good chunk of your career to date in agency land, you’re pretty bloody familiar with it by now, and you feel a natural excitement and readiness to champion a role like this yourself! 

As you can probably tell, you’ll need to be someone who is well connected in the Melbourne digital community, is confident in marketing and pitching to big clients, and know how to ‘talk the talk’ when it comes to creating successful digital strategies for the clients you’re engaging with. You get your kicks from spending your time meeting people, connecting with key players/ brands/ partners in the market, and adding value to them with the support of the incredibly talented team of specialists that will be surrounding you. 

You also enjoy the thought of continuously growing your network in the Melbourne market with your eye on the prize of growing market share for the agency in your patch. And right now? You’re likely a leader in an agency – perhaps in an account director, client solutions, or strategic/commercial role and you’ve got those wonderful leadership qualities to assist you when the time comes for you to scale a team around you.

Here’s a look at some of the things you’ll be owning and evolving in the role: 

  • Proactively evaluate, approach, and secure mutually beneficial partnerships with values-aligned indie agencies (web, creative, brand, PR, eComm, etc.) in Melbourne; 
  • Take the reins on all things revenue generation  for the agency, champion and pave the way towards kicking the agency growth targets in your patch – helping scale a team to support you to contribute to this goal along the way;
  • Grow awareness, positive reputation, and consideration of the brand amongst the target decision making segment in Melbourne, through identifying high-impact marketing opportunities (events, sponsorships, awards, etc.) and working with the Marketing Manager to plan and implement;
  • Leverage your network of contacts to secure opportunities for the agency to get a seat at the table for RFPs and  agency reviews for major brands and digital advertisers;
  • Qualify and respond to inbound enquiries through the website and referral network;
  • Based on your knowledge of the marketplace – conduct smart, targeted outreach to brands and advertisers to create new opportunities to discuss capabilities and services with them;
  • Create high-quality long-form written RFP responses; And
  • Create and present high-quality presentation-style pitches.

And here’s what you’ll need to bring to make this role a shining success:

  • Solid and proven experience in an agency leadership role. This might mean you’ve had experience in an Account Director, Client Solutions, or client-facing strategy/commercial role where you’ve had to be at the helm of spearheading client pitches, strategy, partnerships, and so on;
  • Strong leadership skills are a must for this one! You’ve managed a team in an agency before and you feel comfortable with the thought of scaling your own from scratch as your role and the Melbourne agency evolve;
  • You’re strategically minded and you know a thing or two about marketing and have some solid business acumen under your belt; 
  • You’re comfortable working towards growth targets, managing budgets, and mapping out growth plans that set the agency up for success now and in the future; 
  • You’re immersed in the digital/marketing world in Melbourne, you’re well connected, and you enjoy continuously growing these networks and partnerships to ensure future success for the agency; 
  • You’ve got a strategic mind, you know how to make decisions (with the support of the wider leadership team) and you’re comfortable having a seat at the leadership table/ bringing new ideas and ways of working to the business that equals success;
  • A people-first attitude – you love to bring your team together and wave the brand values flag of this awesome biz. And;
  • A relevant degree (Business/Marketing) would be really useful in a role like this.
