Last year I met with the founders of this business and straight off the bat I was mighty impressed, because well, they were damn impressive people! 
What a great success story for a home grown start-up business here in Melbourne. They are 5 years in, and never had to raise a Series A. They have been profitable for the past 3 years, so they are in a pretty strong position right now with some ambitious growth plans in place. All this and still 2 of the most humble people you would ever meet. Now having worked with them to help grow out the engineering team, my opinion of them and how they operate are only getting better.

CoinJar is one of Australia’s fastest growing startups and a trusted market leader in the digital currency industry. They build consumer-friendly products with strong focus on security, scalability and usability.
They create products for the future from CoinJar Swipe, a bitcoin debit card, to their web and mobile apps that empower anyone to buy, sell, send, receive and accept bitcoin as a payment method. CoinJar has processed more than $1 billion worth of transactions for more than 350,000 individual and business customers.

The why
The CoinJar vision is to be the interface between traditional finance and the digital currency economy. They help consumers, professionals and institutions access the digital currency economy in a familiar, trustworthy manner they expect from financial institutions.
One of the key strategies for them is to build a mobile product that will give them the best on-the-go experience for digital currencies. They have a few projects in the pipeline….This is where you come in.

The what
We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer who will join their team to develop backend APIs and services. Their backend stack is primarily in Ruby, with some of the newer projects in Elixir.
Their Engineering Team is a product-oriented cross-functional team with capabilities in Product Management, Design, Frontend, Backend and Mobile. At CoinJar, you can expect to take ownership in projects from inception and influence the future product directions based on your expertise.

• Design, implement and maintain external and internal APIs and services that are secure, reliable and scalable.
• Respond to bug reports and debug production issues across the entire platform.
• Work with other engineers, product manager and company management to deliver our product vision and roadmap.
• Share the responsibility of DevOps with the entire engineering team, including database maintenance and deployment.

  
What you will bring to the role  

• You have at least 3 years of experience in software engineering, preferably in Ruby and/or Elixir.
• You have some database experience (SQL and NoSQL). They use MySQL, Postgres and Redis.
• You’ve previously built production software with meaningful scale.
• You can write high-quality, reliable code with security and scalability in mind.
• You’re passionate about building FinTech products for everyday consumers.
• If you have made contributions to open source projects that would be just swell!
• Something that would be pretty sweet to have under your belt would be previous experience working in an environment with strong security constraints, or you have other web security experience.
