PHP Developer – Symfony, TDD – Awesome Engineering Culture

Can you roll PHP within the Symfony Framework that the godfather Fabien himself would be proud of and get pumped by kicking complex business logic into shape? Well then… this gig could be right up your street!

I’ve partnered with a Fintech scale-up who punches well above its weight in the global market, and in a ridiculously short amount of time have grown to be amongst the best in the game. What’s the secret to this success I hear you scream?… Investment in the best technology, their internal engineering culture, awesome people and a product that has real user needs at its core!
But enough fluff – let’s talk about the good stuff!
These guys take engineering seriously! You’ll be working on their primary application which handles a tonne of global data, millions of database entries and some super complex business logic. Your objective will be to wrangle this biz logic into shape, improving its speed, testability, simplicity, scalability, predictability, security, and maintainability – that’s a lot of ilities…
But on a more serious note, we need a PHP Developer that has a strong understanding of quality engineering practices including PHP best practices, unit testing (PHPUnit), CI/CD (we use Buildkite) and a deep understanding of either the Symfony 2 or 3 framework.
What skills do you need for success in this team?

  • You need to be confident working in the Symfony framework, with demonstrable production-ready Symfony 2/3 apps delivered
  • Solid experience working in an enterprise level PHP Developer environment
  • An understanding of software development techniques such as Object-Orientated Design, Dependency Injection, and CI/CD pipeline management.
  • Experience developing cloud-based solutions using AWS (EC2, RDS, etc)
  • Some experience or at least a keen interest in NoSQL DB’s like Elasticsearch would be awesome, but not mandatory!

What’s in it for you?
Autonomy, ownership of their flagship application and a whole lot of growth opportunities. These guys take staff development seriously and are always looking for new ways to improve internal processes from both a technology and strategic perspective.

Some of the engineers I’ve helped successfully into this business are now sitting their AWS exams and generally kick ass!
